Originally designed in 1982 by the legendary Danish master Ib Geertsen, this magnificent exhibition poster was created for Bevægelige billeder (Moving Pictures) at the Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum. Showcasing a bold, sun-drenched palette and Geertsen’s internationally celebrated teardrop motif, this meticulously restored gallery print injects a playful, sophisticated modern statement into any space.

The History: Born in 1919, Ib Geertsen was a pioneer of Concrete Art and geometric abstraction in Scandinavia, famously co-founding the radical artist group Linien II in 1947. Geertsen spent over seven decades exploring the relationships between color, space, and movement through paintings, screenprints, monumental public color installations, and kinetic mobiles. This iconic poster was commissioned in 1982 by the Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum (now the Kunsten Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg, Denmark) for an innovative exhibition in their Børnemuseum (Children’s Museum). Designed to inspire curiosity, the show celebrated art that “moves”—both literally through suspended sculptures and visually through energetic color theory.

The Aesthetic: A masterclass in late 20th-century Danish modernism, this striking composition features a brilliant vertical split background: a fiery orange panel on the left and a bright, canary yellow canvas on the right. Floating within these fields are six of Geertsen’s signature dråbeformer (teardrop shapes—his trademark synthesis of a circle and a square). The playful contrast of bright yellow drops on orange, balanced by crimson and deep indigo blue drops on yellow, creates an incredibly upbeat visual rhythm. Anchored at the bottom by classic, crisp Danish gallery typography, this print beautifully bridges the gap between sophisticated avant-garde design and whimsical charm.

It is an ideal statement piece for:

Collectors of mid-century modern design, Scandinavian art enthusiasts, and fans of geometric minimalism.

Bright living spaces, modern kitchens, creative studios, playroom walls, or nurseries looking for an artistic yet playful atmosphere.

Eclectic, contemporary, or minimalist interior styles that thrive on bold color-blocking and clean graphic lines.

Product Details

Artist: Ib Geertsen – Vintage Danish Modern Poster

Title: Bevægelige billeder (Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum Børnemuseum)

Subject: Scandinavian Geometric Abstract Color Study

Original Year: 1982

Style: Concrete Art / Nordic Modernism / Graphic Art

Museum-Quality Vintage Prints

Our vintage posters are made to order using premium Giclée printing techniques.
