Enliven your space with the vibrant harmony and painterly abstraction of Scandinavian modern art. Originally created in the summer of 1941 by the legendary Danish master Edvard Weie, Faun und Nymphe (Faun and Nymph) is a magnificent explosion of pure, radiant color.

By dissolving the classic mythological figures into gestural, fluid blocks of pigment, Weie created an incredibly progressive and emotionally uplifting visual landscape. Beautifully balanced with clean, high-contrast headline typography at the top, this meticulously restored gallery-style poster serves as a sophisticated, bright, and deeply artistic statement piece for your wall.

The History: Painted in 1941 during the final active year of his life, Faun und Nymphe stands as the grand-scale culmination of Edvard Weie’s (1879–1943) lifelong exploration of literary and mythological themes. A fiercely independent pioneer of Danish Modernism and Colourism, Weie drew structural inspiration for this dramatic composition from Paul Cézanne’s famous 1867 canvas, The Abduction. Regarded as an absolute landmark in Nordic art history for its radical break toward lyrical abstraction, the original masterpiece is proudly preserved today in the permanent collection of the Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark) in Copenhagen.

The Aesthetic: A tour de force of mid-century expressionist color theory, this composition boasts a stunningly warm and luminous palette dominated by sun-kissed canary yellows, rich autumnal ochres, delicate pastel pinks, and fresh jade greens. Instead of harsh outlines, the forms of the faun and nymph emerge organically through bold, energetic brushstrokes and heavy layers of light. The open, airy arrangement fills a room with a sense of continuous movement, sunshine, and a sophisticated Scandinavian gallery ambiance.

It is an ideal statement piece for:

  • Fine art collectors, curators, designers, and admirers of radical early modern abstraction.

  • Living rooms, bright sunrooms, contemporary bedrooms, or creative studio walls demanding a joyous focal point.

  • Scandinavian, mid-century modern, minimalist, or bohemian interior styles that benefit from an energetic splash of warm color.
