The History: Moriz Jung (1885–1915) was a rising star of the Vienna Secession movement and a star pupil at the renowned Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna. Beginning in 1907 while still a student, Jung became one of the most prolific graphic designers for the Wiener Werkstätte—a pioneering production collective co-founded by Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser to blend fine art with everyday decorative design. In 1911, Jung created a famous series of satirical graphic prints celebrating and poking fun at the dawn of aviation. Tragically, Jung’s brilliant career was cut short when he fell during World War I in 1915 at the age of 29. Today, original lithographs of Unblutige Jagd auf Giraffen are preserved in world-class museum archives, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
